I bought a set of stock intakes for cheap and figured i could port them myself with my good old dremel tool. Is there any how to articles on how i could go about doing this.

Thoes should help, also search for general instructions and try to get a grasp on the theory behind porting so what your doing will make more since.

Hell since this post is already here, i plan to p&p when i get home using the standard abrasives delux kit, has anyone used it and if so what did you think? Aslo i have a flex extension for my die grinder so i shouldn't need one of the 6" carbide bits gaston mentioned right? The kit doesnt come with any carbide bits, but i asume the only purpose was for the added reach.

whats wrong with a dremel i ported my upper and half shafter my tb with a dremel. i had very good gains, the only bad thing was it took a long time and i went through alot of sanding wheels, but the flap wheels worked really really really really really good, that thing was like my best friend during the project.

Dremel is OK for one-off projects but
for guys like me it's a waste of major time.

I have an electric here that I'm selling with speed control...

Read those links, good porting info there and just post
in them and I'll reply if U need help. I started the one
you need most, it has a good outline for 99^ intake porting.

thanks guys, a friend of mine that has ported heads on pretty much everything is going to help me out with the intakes, he even ported the heads on his go-cart.

"very good gains" as in flow-benched-verified flow numbers or "the walls
felt smooth to my finger"?

sand-wheels are fine for sanding but crap for actually porting (re-shaping ports)

Agreed, they can remove some material but it takes
over 100x longer... sanding rolls, drums, and flaps are
for the final finish texturing. Get real tools or spend
lots of extra time, and still not do it right. Creating
lots of aluminum dust is bad for the nose and lungs too! :disgust:

btw you will still need to use the long carbide bit to remove most of the metal and probably need something similar if you use a dremel iHonestly I think the flex shaft is still to big in diameter.

good gains as in smooth to the touch, and better acceleration from the car after it was ported, i really removed alot of metal on the short runners, and i removed less metal from the long runners. i really didn't gasket match the long runners just slightly enlarged them.

the car as no problem revving to 6K inow it did before, and shook alittle at 6K and it doesn't any more, and high speed acceleration really did improve.

yah sanding wheels suck to smooth out the walls i had better luck with a flap wheel. and these abrasive buffing wheels i found with different grits which makes it really easy when polishing things up.

I used a dremel on my upper and TB. It worked OK, but it was a real PITA and took a long time. The old pencil style dremel flex shafts were good, but the new ones with all that contour grip crap don't get too much further than the dremel itself. The shafts on the bits are too short and the dremel doesn't make enough torque to really be effective. I would compare it to filling up a 50 gallon aquarium with a spoon.
They do work nice for finishing though, especially the flap wheels.

Sounds like ill be borrowing the compresor after all.
