View Full Version : I made motor mounts that move the engine back 1" *DUW*

I need more clearance in front of the engine for the turbos; it's a tight squeeze between the WP and fan.

There is a motor mount plate/pad and a motor mount. The pad bolts to the motor, the mount bolts to the pad and to the K member. I moved the motor mount forward 1" on the pad; ditching the bolts in favor of welding. There is not enough room to keep the bolts, if you need a new motor mount you have to get a new pad, not a big deal to get from the JY.

If anyone wants these I can make up another set if you send me some to modify.

I'll have to do something about the tranny mount when I put it back in the car, pretty simple to redrill the holes though. The DS is supposed to still fit.

Anyone know how much this helped my weight distribution?

You may want to keep this for the archives stone

just for shits and giggles, what would you want to do this modification? provided the mounts were sent to you.

well, moving the engine back a bit shifts the center of gravity back a bit
it can help with drag racing

justin moved it back, for more clearance
it is a cool idea, instead of getting a different fan assembly

I was concerned with the available aftermartket fans, how much air they would move and how long they would last. I want to stay with something OEM. I got some F body dual fans, they are about 1" shallower than stock fan, and shallower in some places, but the motors are still very deep, I'm going to see if my stock fan will work out for me.

I looked at it and the 3/4x1/8 steel strip actually broke, not the weld.

The yoke should have some room to slide farther into the tailhousing, mik's was fine, depending on which way the tolerances stack up mine may be fine too.

Note that you still need to leave clearance for
the rear end moving around

what is the purpose of have a slip yoke anyways? ease of installation. A lot of my friends who 4-wheel all get slip yoke eleminators on their cars in order to increast stability, I wonder if hardcore drag cars still use slip yokes??

It depends how far out the yoke is originally.

I am using a shortened driveshaft on my 94 which has its engine set back 2.25"

This is the tranny mount I made that is offset 1" rearward. Just cut the stock mount and welded on some drilled 1/8" angle steel.

If this post becomes tech archives the pics need to be saved somewhere else.

BTW, 5 speed and auto tranny mounts are the same for 99+, I had them side by side.

wow, the newer tranny crossmembers are weird looking compared to my 94 crossmember, mine looks likethe old fashioned double hump crossmember

I wouldn't say these would be obsolutely nessary for fitting turbos. With clever plumbing you wouldn't need to move the motor back an inch. But hey the more room the better. You can never have enough room.

Hey justin ever thought about cutting the front end off where the radiator is at and just adding and welding your own tube on it. You can still use the oem stuff and shift the fan and radiator forward more.

justin - is this absolutely needed to run your TT setup?
