My stock DS with yoke=21.8lbs
The Al. DS I with my stock yoke=16lbs

About 6lbs weight savings, or ~36% less rotating weight.

Al DS with no front yoke=11.2lbs
Automatic 96+ stock front yoke=3.8lbs (has heavy dampner intergrated)

Can anyone weigh the FMS supplied yoke? pics of it would be nice too. I wonder if it's lighter.

My DS came from a 99+ GT, he needed my stock one so we swapped yokes, his had no balancer and seemed lighter, but I don't think it was the FMS yoke....I have a feeling the installer just swapped yokes so he could use the cheaper -95 DS.

What I'm getting at here, for those swapping in a whole DS (like mark O with his 95 GT) there seems to be more of a weight savings than for those using stock heavy yokes.

T5/C4 yokes dont have balancers and are quite a
bit lighter than AODE/4r70w yokes. The yoke on
8X-95 FMS DS's is the stock t5 one I believe.

Also I heard that lentech aod's use yokes with no
balancers, I dont know if the balancers are
optional or if lentech tweeks the output shaft
etc to delete that extra weight.

The word on the dampner on the auto tranny yoke...It's there to damp out some vibes, but you don't really need it.

Can we use a lighter yoke from any other trannys?

I don't know of any others that would work, the C4 is heavier Gaston says than the 4R70W and the other Ford automatics that come to mind would be either to short or too long I can't thinkof another newer Ford vehicle that would have the same size ds and yoke as we would, maybe check a Ranger with a 7.5 it might work, I don't know what tranny they have, anybody know if this would work? images/smiles/icon_smile.gif

I said the C4 yoke is lighter

I think one of the commonly available light yokes
(t5/c4 one, t45 one, or tremec tko) will slip
over a 4r70w output shaft but thats a guess. Also
note that while the output shafts of the AODE are
compatible with 4r70w's, the tailshafts seals
are made for their skinnier yokes.

I weighed the stock steel DS out of a 95 V6 5spd, 26lbs! It had a huge dampner on the front yoke. You guys who have this should really swap on a regular light yoke, you'll drop 6-8lbs and that will make a small difference.

Justin, I just got an aluminum driveshaft. The yoke has NO balancer on it so I assume its the 5-speed yoke. In order to use this yoke instead of my AODE yoke with huge dampener, what would I have to do, just change the real seal on the output shaft for the smaller yoke diameter?

Here is my new aluminum drivesahft I got today!

It should work with no changes, assuming you still have an AODE.

well I installed my aluminum drivesahft tonight, fits like a glove! Looks sweet too. Anyways I did not change the yokes on the driveshaft, I have the M-4602-G driveshaft for 8x-95, I kept the yoke that came with the driveshaft on there, it should be the 5-speed yoke since there is no dampener on it. Anyways, after it was installed it seems to fit the rear tranny seal pretty good but if you wiggle the driveshaft it looks like there may be a little play in the seal, I did not do this with the stock drivesahft so I am not sure if thats normal or not.

Can anyone confirm this?

i have that play as well, makes for a noisey drive/reverse engagement.

Automatic 96+ stock front yoke=3.8lbs (has heavy dampner intergrated)

Today I got a 4R70W front yoke from the JY, with no dampner. It weighs about 1-1.5lb less.

so a 4R70W yoke on an al. DS is the best bet for us auto guys looking to get a new DS?

Sprout,

I also want to use that M-4602-G driveshaft on my 95 AOD-E, since it appears to be a perfect swap.

Keep me informed to let me know if you get any wierd vibes or tranny leaks; I'd like to order one in the upcoming months and want to be sure its koscher..........

It is a direct fit...There are no wierd vibes or leaks whatsoever. It slides in and stays put. There is a slight whistle that comes from underneath..It is only under 0-20 mph acceleration...but it's a nice whistle..kinda like a blower. (hard to describe). Benefits are: It makes it seem like the engine is not straining as hard to get moving (since it's rotating less weight); and it seems to accelerate faster. I've had mine on for about 1 year...and I love it.

My 1995 AODE took the M-4602-G as a direct swap. You do not need to swap yokes or anything.

All 1994-2004 Manual tranny T5 V6's need the M-4602-G also...since it's a direct fit.

All 1996-2004 Auto tranny V6's will need either the M-4602-G or M-4602-J, but you will not be able to use the Aluminum yoke. You will have to re-use your stock yoke.

Awesome, just what I wanted to hear!

You carry the M-4602-G on your site, no?

I'll most likely pic it up in a couple of months......
