View Full Version : rough acceleration below 2.5k rpms

this started when i pulled my f2 out over the weekend and i went down to 87 from 93
it happens whether im revving from idle when im stopped, or if im accelerating from a stop. the engine just kinda bogs and sputters til i hit about 2.5-3k rpm, then it proceeds normally.
i thought it was the IAC (?) filter thing next to the EGR so i cleaned that and it didnt happen again last night, but it started up again today
i dont hear any pinging, it just sputters occasionally in that rpm range
suggestions? and if someone says its a vacuum leak, how and where do i test that?

a bad coil pack does that... but that wouldnt have anything to deal with you pulling your F2.... but its something to keep in mind

should i go back into the ecu and check to see all the fittings are in tight? i didnt disconnect any of the harnesses... i just unscrewed the bracket holding them and the ground wire, and i squeezed the ecu past it so i could yank the chip. then i tightened it all back up again...

well i changed my plugs from autolite 765 (equivalent to motorcraft awsf-42C) to one heat range colder, autolite 764 (equivalent to motorcraft awsf-32C) and the car was running GREAT for a couple days, the hesitation was almost completely gone.
then a couple days later it was raining pretty hard and i ran through a puddle that was kinda deep, and the hesitation came back... but it's been a couple days since then and it's mostly cleared up.
i think the plug change was just a quick fix and didn't really address the problem. i'm gonna replace my fuel filter next and see what that does. if it's not that, then i'm gonna look for an exhaust leak.
and your english is a lot better than my french :)
Another thing you should do:

ok before, my car with the new chip wont idle and die...
but I cleaned the Maf ( but not with electric cleaner ) and the car start good....
do you think that the problem that i said in my last message can be occured by the MAF ???
if I clean it with electric cleaner, it will do a bigger difference ??
thanx for your help

cleaning the maf might obscure the problem slightly, your problem might be related to the contacts on the chip and the ecu not being cleaned enough.

Heh, looking at that wildhorse post was kinda nostalgic of when I totally removed the lil screen thingamabob... I wonder what its purpose was, anyways?

What are your mods?
just basic stuff
asp udp, dmm cai, steeda y-pipe duals
i switched to 32c plugs about a week ago, and i think if the fuel filter has been replaced at all it was replaced at 50k miles (i'm now almost at 99k), but i get the feeling i've never had it replaced.
