so the 1/2" cap that is supposed to cap off the bung on the header does not fit the stock header.. its metric. the 1/2" cap only works on the MAC stuff for some reason.
we had to unbolt the header completely to get the EGR tube off. we cut the tube at the base then pounded it shut and used that as a cap.
for the blockoff plate, chris_red_v6 made me a blockoff plate using computer case. we used alot of black rtv to seal it up. we did not use the gasket.
my misfiring is competely gone, i immediately threw a code the second time driving it. lol, the first time i drove it, it was almost stalling out and it felt slower than usual, then viola i noticed i forgot to plug in the MAF. i'm suprised it even ran, probably very rich.

Is there any place you could get a cap for the header? What is the metric size?
I want to do mine but I really dont want to have to take the header off.

you're gonna have to take the header off... i don't see any way of moving a wrench in there.

oh and believe me, taking the header off is really really easy... 6 bolts

Did you have to get a new header gasket?

no they are reusable

its possible actually with the right size wrench. We were using a cresent wrench which is bigger so thats why we didnt have the room.
it still wont be easy though.

a 27mm wrench is huge in the first place, i don't see how that would be any better.

on joes car w/ LTs or maybe it was on ric's with stock headers, slow managed to get a small crescent wrench in there along with a small breaker bar tube to go on it

Yeah, I believe I took my EGR tube off my stock header before I took the header off.

I hate EGR as much as the next guy.... Have you seen/felt any change in the way the car runs?? Was your fuel mileage affected at all??

i got mine off with the manifold on there.... craftsman break jaw adjustable wrench worked like a champ

so why are you guys removing the EGR? It will cause the combustion chamber temps to go up.

Because its a pain to reinstall with aftermarket headers and the vortech inlet gets in the way of it.
So?

so is he installing a vortech? if not, what's the point? PCV removal I could understand, but removing the EGR unless your s/c'd seems pointless.

theres no harm in removing it, its basically useless clutter.
hell, even if i didnt mod my car, i would delete it just to make changing the spark plugs sooo much easier.

The EGR reduces combustion temps, improves fuel economy and lowers the NOx output. so it is more than just emissions.

i changed my spark plugs, it wasn't in my way.

Yes. The way the EGR flow tables are set up from the factory it only increases economy in a very narrow load and rpm range.
Putting inert gas into the intake charge reduces power, and as you know EGR only works at part throttle, so it doesn't effect WOT.

gitman, did you update your eec with the change. i've heard that when you delete the egr you get major emissions codes from the eec unless its told to ignore it.

I guess i'll agree with that. I guess you dont get much or loose much by removing it....

I agree.
Right now I'm testing a file on my truck, there is tons of EGR flow added in at all throttle positions (except idle and wot). It helps MPG a little bit...along with some other things that are done to the calibration.

yeah the VMP chip disabled it.
i removed my EGR because it went bad and started to cause my car to misfire. since i got the chip i haven't had any MPG problems.
