Not sure if this has been done before. Our search function is kinda whack so
I'm asking though.
Trying to find out all the little things I need for the swap, like gaskets and such.
I guess one of the gray areas for me is the cam swap and the associated
parts and gaskets. Do I need a degree kit?
When you add head studs, adjustable rockers, metal head gaskets, it gets
pretty expensive.

Werd. I spent $650 for the cam, gaskets, springs, pushrods, and head bolts. :(
Mines adding up for the cam, but putting the heads into the equation makes it even higher.
Gaskets needed:
Head gaskets
Front Cover Gasket
Water pump gasket
lower intake overhaul gaskets
upper intake gasket? - not included
$104.93 prior to shipping
cam - 210 shipped (50 back once I return the core)
valve springs - 88.58 shipped
So I could do the cam fairly well under the 650 Clay did it for. Also you need assembly lube for the cam.
but since I'm adding the heads in, need to add to the list:
head bolts - 60
total = 463.51 plus shipping and the cost of heads, etc
If I'm missing something post it and let me know.

My valve springs cost 60-70 more. pushrods are another $50(if you need them). My price of $650 included shipping AND the head bolts.
so, your 463 + 70 + 50 + 60 = 593 + shipping
werd to your mother.
$463 is everything, including the head bolts, without the 10 shipping for the gaskets, but I will get 50 back as soon as I can get the project done. So that comes out to $424.51 (including $11 for shipping) :word:. And if you need pushrods or more expensive springs, it comes to $544.
What lift are your valve springs good for? Also is there anything that I'm forgetting? I've read everything about this stuff, but haven't actually done it... yet (give me a few weeks).

You do not need a degree kit. I'm not 100% sure what it does, but i think its just a clarification of what specs your cam are.

Stuff adds up pretty quick.....I spent quite a bit more than $600. Oh, whatever you do, don't forget about the little allen head bolt on the timing cover. I learned the hard way

Ouch! That sucker is hidden like a mofo, I'm just glad I was reminded before doing the swap!

First rule of modding your stang: Never add up how much you've spent. I learned this long ago ;)
It looks like you've got your list complete though.

Also, sorry for the thread resurrection :) but are any specialized tools needed beyond the typical hand tools? I'm really thinking about doing some ported heads and a cam--I've already got some gaskets, I've got another set of intakes which I'm porting by hand, etc.
