Can a car have a miss with no CE light?

I am just wondering if there is a way a car can run with a miss or something of this nature with out a check engine light comming on, and what can i use or do to make sure its running with out any miss at all? what can i tell ford to do to check it.

when my car was misfiring because of my EGR being screwed up, i only got a CEL for the EGR, not the misfiring.

yea, but if I have no check engine light then is everything running correctly?
